La PiLe is a project that creates links between neighbours and reinvents electricity in the city.

A test site is being set up in Brussels Midi to visualise, generate, store and share electricity collectively

Tinkering and prototyping have always been part of the field of electricity. From Franklin’s kite to Musk’s automobile, it has always been a process of trying and testing, of building arcs, throwing sparks and doing more with less. Admit it, your relationship with plugs and sockets is also one of trial-and-error rather than based on solid science.

At the 21st century, as we enter the second century of the electricity grid, prototyping and pioneering are more relevant than ever: we need more electricity –to squeeze our oranges, brush our teeth and other vital activities–, at the same time we realise that every Kilowatthour is a weight on the environment. The electricity sector is in flux, so now is the time to shape it better. And to give citizens a say. We are giving it a try in the dynamic and diverse Midi neighbourghood in Brussels!
